Zombie Stitch with Mette Tommerup

 Zombie Stitch Project

The process of embroidery is a repetitive activity that can easily set up a meditative or mindless state.  Hence the term “zombie.”  The first undertaking was the re-enacting of three paintings of Mette Tommerup’s  “Full Salute” project.  The embroideries were the same scale and were sort of skeletal x-ray of the brush strokes of the Tommerup Paintings.

Continuing on with the strange re-making, process, I began to zombie stitch my own paintings, only this time in fragments.

What makes me stitch is to see what happens between paint and floss.  What transformations, interpretations, quotes, and changes can happen with this activity.  The affirmation of the marks in a non fluid medium.
